Quaint Hotels in Barcelona

I have been in contact directly with many hotels listed in the Rick Steves guide but I would like to ask my fellow travelers where they would stay. I will be traveling with my two sisters and brother in law so we would need 2 rooms and ideally with breakfast. We have 5 days in Barcelona and would like to use that as a home base to explore a day trip or two possibly. I am going November 19th after a week of river cruising from Lyon to Arles on AMA Waterways and then we will transfer to Barcelona. My last time in this lovely city was a year before the Olympics and I just remember arriving from Monte Carlo via a night train and upon arriving, I drank my first water with gas! So this trip is a little different but I still love the small ran hotels and B&Bs. Thank You in Advance as where I stay many times makes such memories.

Water with gas--carbonated water, seltzer, Sprudel.

water with gas... hahaha!, that's a direct (bad) translation into English from a Romance language, either Spanish ("agua con gas"), French ("eau gazeuse")... also in Catalan ("aigua amb gas"). That's how we call in these shores to the soda, fizzy water, carbonated-water, or whatever it's called in your neck of the woods.

In Germany such water is usually referred to as Wasser mit Gas--not a translation from a Romance language.

Thank you for your replies. 20 plus years ago I had never drank a sparkling water so that is what I called it back then. I thought it was a funny memory as I have been drinking sparkling water ever since. But thanks for making me laugh at myself. I really wanted to focus on a local hotel or B&B that would also be a great value and in a central area. I want a good value as I may stay longer than 4 or 5 nights. Ideally 100euro or a little more.

Thank you for those that did provide a link to a few gems.

I created some time ago this map of HOSTALS, GUESTHOUSES AND B&Bs in BARCELONA, as recommended by frequent visitors of the city at the Barcelona forum at TripAdvisor: http://bit.ly/hostals_and_BBs_in_BCN

BarcelonaB&B and Anasguesthouse are two highly recommended B&Bs.

Hope it helps.

" ...for two cents plain! " And then add a healthy spoonful of Fox's U'BET chocolate syrup , a dollop of milk and stir - You have an Egg Cream !

Kathy, the B & B I have booked for a week in April may just fit the bill for you and your relatives. It is The Patio B & B in Eixample right by the Entenca metro station, a reasonable walk or quick metro ride to most sites. It is very highly rated on TA and booking.com, including for the graciousness of the couple that runs it, and a fine breakfast. It is well under €100 per room per night. It is also on Enric's list/map. It has just two rooms, and the one thing that might be a downside is that the two rooms share a bathroom. I am hoping that will not be a problem for me. Most of the reviews did not say that was any problem, although one reviewer said it would be most ideal for a family using both rooms. They also have an apartment at another nearby location. Worth looking into with the couple in charge, Liz and Tony. (Of course, with lots of good reviews, it may already be booked up for your dates).

...not that matters Wonderful... but I created the map "based" on TA feedback at the Barcelona forum over the past couple of years... users that post their experiences first hand, rather than the TA section related to the sites themselves... I found that one to be quite unreliable. In any case, as I often mention, I don't work in tourism so the map it's rather a 'public service' than anything else. Just sayin'

Thank you Larry for your recommendation of the B&B. That sounds perfect and sharing a bath is no problem as it is family. Also very nice it is on that great map produced by Enric. I will email them this weekend. And again, thank you! Means a lot to get first hand recommendations!

Yes Kathy, it is a personal recommendation, with the proviso that I have not yet stayed there myself. Visit coming up very soon!
