What are recommendations for visiting the Pyrenees? My wife has a particular interest in seeing famous maintain ranges, starting there. Also we are thinking about the Alps which I am sure is a different forum! Many thanks for any ideas!
It’s a long range and is part of three countries; France, Spain, and Andorra. What type recommendations are you looking for; places to stay, things to see, towns to visit, outdoor activities, etc.?
Enter the Pyrenees from St-Jean de Luz, France to access the charming Basque villages there.
Visit Ainhoa, Ascain, Espellette, Saré and more.
500km, over 300 miles of mountains that separate Spain from France. On the Spanish side, from west to east, you have the Basque Country, Navarra, Aragón and Cataluña (Catalonia). Very different "Pyrenees" depending on the area you want to visit, the most spectacular ones are in Aragón and Catalonia, in any case a beautiful, spectacular mountain range full of traditions, amazing towns, wow landscapes...
Staying in the western Pyrenees, The Izpegi Pass has some super panoramic view of the north face of the mountains.
The Pass is the south side of the Baztan valley, and is the border between Spain and France. There are some small restaurants where you can enjoy the view. If you had down the mountain it will take you to Biagorry and over to San Juan Pie de Puerto.
What are some recommended activities and attractions near the Izpegi Pass in the western Pyrenees? Additionally, are there any hiking trails or scenic routes in the area that offer breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding landscapes?
@ dunnsimsham a good place to start is with the Navarra Tourist page for the enter link description hereBaztan Valley.
Here is a page about hiking routes in the valley.
