Will be in Madrid for 2 days (not consecutive) and the Paseo de Arte sounds good for us but I see there is free admission for over 65. Are we better off trying that or buying a ticket? The free admission sounds super but want to make sure we can get into the museums. Thank you
The Prado has free access for everyone during these hours:
FREE ACCESS
Monday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sundays and holidays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
I don't see anything on the Prado's ticket page about free entry specifically for seniors at other times. There is a reference to a reduced ticket price for seniors: half off for either the permanent collection or exhibitions. There's no problem at all buying a reduced-price senior ticket as long as those at the Prado aren't restrict to local or EU citizens; that's the case at some sights in Spain (and elsewhere), but it doesn't seem to be the case at the Prado. I make use of senior tickets all the time. Just have your passport with you in case they want to see proof of age.
I really don't have any idea how crowded (or not) the Prado is during the free-admission periods. I was there in 2015 on Museum Day, when it was free; it wasn't particularly crowded then, but I don't think Museum Day was as well-known as the regular free-entry periods. I know that folks usually recommend against trying to take of a free-entry day at places like the Louvre.
Thank you for your information. I could not find the reduced senior ticket on the museum's ticket website. Can you tell me where tht is?

Artículo 3. Entrada individual reducida.

I do not know the rules for that PAss, but I have read that many sites limit discounts to EU residents or those from Spain or that town.
Enjoy the museums!
