Public transport between Madrid - Segovia - Salamanca - Toledo - Madrid

Hi all,
I will be travelling for 2 weeks this Christmas to the above mentioned cities. I have been to madrid a few times and DO NOT wish to spend much/any time there.

My aim is to land in Madrid and take public transport to either Segovia or Toledo the same day.

My question: Can I travel direct on public transport (bus or train are acceptable - looking for the fastest and most direct) from Segovia to Salamanca? Salamanca to Toledo? etc?
I am gathering that there are no direct routes in some cases. Please advice.

I would love to rent a car, and while the rental fees are reasonable, the GPS feature would cost more than the rental fee. Any way of getting around this? TIPS?!?!

To go anywhere from Toledo by train requires a trip through Madrid. The line to Toledo is a dead-end spur. There may be a few places with direct buses from Toledo, but I doubt that you'd save any time by avoiding Atocha Station.

I'm not sure about Segovia to Salamanca. You may find good news on Rome2Rio.com. It's travel times and fares are not particularly trustworthy, but it's usually right about whether a particular form of transportation exists between two cities. If you see something promising, keep drilling down until you find a link to the bus company's website. Or you can try Googling "Bus Segovia to Salamanca". That's often fruitful.

Some people have used Google Maps offline for driving directions. I have not.

You can bring a GPS with you, pre-loaded with European maps; this is usually cheaper than a GPS rental. If you already own a GPS, see what an upgrade to European maps would cost and what it would entail. If you don't already own a GPS, you can get a model that has both North American and European maps, such as this TomTom: https://www.amazon.com/TomTom-Traveler-Portable-Touchscreen-Navigation/dp/B00BHSTWOY/

You can also use your smartphone - that is, if you can get a reasonable data plan, or can figure out how to get maps that will stay on the phone (so it doesn't constantly need data to download new maps). Others have posted some details of this.

Of course, if you don't mind just using paper maps, you may not need a GPS. You're going to major places, so they should be well-signed.
