Recommendations for private transfer (car) from Madrid hotel to Segovia hotel, and then back to Madrid hotel a day later? Any reliable and reasonably priced companies available? Thanks
I can't provide a recommendation for a driver but want to be sure you realize that most of the trains from Madrid-Chamartin station take only about 27 minutes (not including travel from your hotel to the station, of course), whereas the fastest road route suggested by ViaMichelin.com is estimated at 75 minutes (wouId be different for specific points of origin and destination).
Thanks, sounds good. Are there taxis available at Segovia-Guiomar station to go into Segovia?
I'm sure someone knows for sure. I can only say that on the continent, there have always seemed to be taxis at train stations. In this case, since the station is not in the center of town, there definitely should be taxis.
In addition, there will be bus service. European city buses tend to run a lot more frequently than US city buses, making them a viable alternative for this sort of route. I don't know how one pays for a city bus in Segovia--can you pay the driver (cash? tappable credit card?) or do you need to stop at a stand inside the station to buy a ticket before stepping on the bus? But Google Maps is saying the bus ride to the area of the aqueduct (or even a trip by car) will be quite lengthy.
I confess that when I wrote my original response I was assuming the trains went to a more centrally located station. (I traveled to Segovia either by bus or regional train back in 2016, possibly from an origin other than Madrid.) Let's see what folks who've taken the fast train from Madrid (subtext: and know what they're talking about) suggest.
I will be doing something similar in a couple weeks, but Airport to Segovia, and have done the trip before. From Chamartin station it is about 30 minutes on a fast train, from the station, there are regular buses to the Aqueduct. I recall seeing taxis in Segovia, and can pretty much assure you that they congregate at the station based on the arrival schedule of the trains.
A private transfer from Madrid would run you about 150 euro each way, for two of you, train will be about 20-40 euro round trip, plus whatever taxi is to/from the stations.
Thanks. We will probably do a day trip from Madrid via train then bus. Appreciate all the comments.
Going to go sometime after the summer heat is gone.
When we were there in '19 cabs available on arrival were taken by those off the train who weren't trying to figure out where they were. Didn't have to wait long for one tho. And, I vaguely recall a phone for service there (could have easily been somewhere else tho).
Just adding a confirmation—day trip in late November ‘21 and there were plenty of taxis there awaiting the train’s arrival.
