we are a group of 13 wanting to take a private tour at our own pace (~6h).
Can someone suggest a good and trusted private tour operator to create a custom tour?

Since Montserrat is very easy to reach via train from Barcelona. That would allow you to spend any amount of time so I am not sure what guide would gain you.

Would you mind giving us more details as to why you'd like a private tour? Is it just that you'd like more time than you've seen on advertized tours or are you looking for someone to help you navigate to/from Montserrat?
I can't help you with the latter, but getting to Montserrat on your own, even with a group of 13, should be pretty easy. You catch the train at Placa Espanya. There are two train stations to get off- one uses a funicular to get to the monastery and the other gets a rack railroad. We liked the funicular. When you get off the train, just follow the crowd to the funicular/railroad. Once you're there, it's self-explanatory. You just follow the reverse to get home.

Correction Patty, one uses a cable car and the other indeed a rack train. The funiculars are available once you've reached the monastery, via one of the two options above, and will take you to the different caves.
For easiness Krish, you can buy a ticket called "TransMontserrat" which includes the train + rack train or cable car + funiculars. This ticket is bought at Espanya FCG station (check red or green lines to find it) as it is the departure station in Barcelona to go to Montserrat- and can be purchased on the same day. Also notice that eateries around the monastery in Montserrat are very bad and expensive so, taking the opportunity of such magnificent landscape and the numerous trails, many suitable for all ages, maybe you should consider a picnic... after all the mountain range of Montserrat is a Natural Park.
