Hello, I will be traveling to Barcelona soon and I am considering a private tour of The neighborhood where I will be staying, in order to become more familiar with my surroundings. Is that something that is needed, or is Barcelona fairly easy to navigate? I will be staying near the Plaça de Catalunya and I want to blend in as best as I can. However I don't want to spend money unnecessarily.

Buy a guidebook and do it yourself, it is easy.
Agreed with others that Barcelona is easy to navigate. However, if you are interested in guided walking tours, the Barcelona Tourism office offers multiple tours (not free).

Thank you for the great advice, everyone. To my point about blending in, I don't speak Catalan (I do speak Spanish moderately well.) I meant not standing out as a tourist / easy(ier) target for pickpockets. I feel more confident now, thanks to the great suggestions and feedback here.
