Preferred neighborhood for Seniors in Malaga in February?

Senior (75+) couple looking for a preferred neighborhood for a two week stay in February. No car, no Spanish (yet), look to walk to most sites in Malaga Centro but hope to avoid crowded, noisy area in the center so looking at edge of that area. Enjoy breakfast in room, out site seeing and lunch, back to relax and walk for dinner or bring back to room. No need for nightlife. Considering La Malagueta (for beachfront walks) or Le Merced.
Any thoughts appreciated? Thanks!

you want to stay in the historic center, not the commercial / metro center!

Check out the spots around Plaza de La Constitucion
like this local chain spot with great walking access to the good stuff:

Note that the lobby is on the first floor, not the ground floor.

Don't miss the Picasso Museum or the Thyssen-Bournemusza museum.

We have stayed in a number of areas in Malaga and have found the Soho neighborhood to be the most convenient. It is close to Larios which is a main street in city center as well as close to Muelle Uno which leads you to the beach. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and a couple grocery stores in the area plus easy access to the bus station/many bus stops and the C1 commuter train stop to/from the airport. It is all very walkable to the main sights of Malaga.
The TI is very close. The area is nestled between some busy streets but we weren't disturbed by traffic noise.
We stayed in an airbnb but there are plenty of hotel options in that area.
I have heard Plaza Merced is noisy at night but have no experience with that.
We did stay by the beach one year which is fairly close to Muelle Uno which offers plenty of food options.

Malaga has a carnival in February so check the dates of that. You might want to see it or avoid it depending on how you feel about these things.

Thanks for the input. If you are willing, EC, I'd really appreciate some info on my Malaga wasn't "your thing"? We hope to stay away from the Historic Center, but with all the sites there, looking for an area just outside so we'd be able to walk to those sites, but also stay away for dinner or relaxing. That is why La Malagueta seemed interesting. Visit sites,in Malaga, take day tours, or just stroll the beachfront in comfortable weather.
