Prado Museum in Madrid

Is there a way to reserve a timed entry for the free admission times or do you just walk in? I don’t see on the web site how to gain entry for free admission times. Are lines long then?

You queue up outside the museum, no reservations. The line is to get through security, not
to purchase tickets.

The lines can be long but move pretty fast.

Also note that the guards start to clear the museum around 15 minutes prior to actual closing
time. So, most likely you'd have 75-90 minutes to enjoy the collections once you get in.

We lined up about 35 minutes prior to the free hours. At some point the lined moved and we were given a timed entry, then we waited for it to open. Once the free hours began everybody just went up the stairs and entered. Nobody seemed to care what time was on the ticket.
