Prado Late September Best Visting Time

I am buying tickets for the Prado late September and am fussing whether to go first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. I am wondering if one time is busier than the other. The ticket purchase page on the Prado states that it is busier in the mornings.

Thanks

Mornings are usually busier since that’s when most tours schedule their visits.

The Prado is huge and handles crowds pretty well. I might suggest you hire a guide. We pick a guide from one of those hanging around the front for a couple of hours. Thinking it was 30E/hour. We asked for a highlight tour of mostly Spanish artists and made sure that we had the Prado map (front desk) and traced our path on that map so we could find our way back. It is hundreds of rooms and sprawling. You need guide or you will be generally lost.

I have to disagree with "You need a guide". I have an extremely poor sense of direction and did not get lost.

I don't mean to be particularly argumentative - just pointing out that what one traveler considers necessary doesn't mean others "must" follow suite. A guide can be great, especially with limited time (or interests), but is not something all visitors require or desire.

I don't think you need a guide either. Just get the audio tour. It covers the highlights. and the brochure with the room layout was easy to follow.

Should we take advantage of the reduced price ticket for the Prado (one of us is 65+) while buying on line in advance? Or will that mean we will have to stand in the box office line to confirm identity and age?
Thanks
