Our RS tour ends in Sevilla on Friday during the Feria week in April. I fly to Casablanca on Monday (no confirmed departing airport yet), so we have the weekend to explore. I couldn't get reservations in the tour end hotel, and suspect everything is going to be filled due to festival. Does anyone have experience with the bus to Lisbon, or renting a car Sevilla to Lisbon or back to Madrid? Adult daughter and I are very flexible with transport and sleeping options.
I'd honestly try to stay in Sevilla for the Feria de Abril, and truly unforgettable and joyous event.
If it is absolutely impossible to find accommodations in Sevilla, I would definitely not try to squeeze in Lisboa. Land connections between Spain and Portugal are historically very scarce. if you only have 2 days, I'd look much closer.
Consider the charming white-washed Cordoba (my favourite city in Andalucía) or the ancient seaside town of Cadiz, both easy train rides from Sevilla.
For airports, check connections out of Jerez de La Frontera if you decide to go to Cádiz.
Unless you want to stay longer in Sevilla (and can get a room), I'd say Cordoba -- easy train ride, fascinating city, good for at least one night, or two if you can. Haven't been to Cadiz but I'm sure it's good too. Nothing wrong with Lisbon except you'll probably spend most of your available time getting there and back.
Rome2rio shows about seven hours between Sevilla and Lisbon, by bus or train. On the other hand, it shows 80 minutes by air between Lisbon and Casablanca, vs. no direct flights between Casablanca and Sevilla, Cordoba, Jerez, or Cadiz.
If you go to Cordoba for a day and a night, say Saturday, you could take a train to Madrid Sunday (two hours) and fly to Casablanca from there (about two hours). You'd need time between Madrid's Atocha station and the airport, but that could include an afternoon in Madrid before a night near the airport for a morning flight.
Thank you for your input! I found a room in Sevilla, so it looks like we'll spend the weekend dancing in the streets!!
From southern Spain there are also ferries to Morocco, Tangier to be specific. And from Tangier you can take the train to Casablanca.
