Ports of Valencia and Alicante on a CRUISE

I love Rick and can never recommend his books highly enough. Here is our predicament:
We are on a CRUISE in October (trying to book things now) with port stops in both Valencia and Alciante. So we will BE THERE

I've tried to look at private tours (never use ship ones) for each port to see if a tour is needed in these ports because there is not enough to see in town on own. (or something that "you must see" which would require a small group tour. As noted on a topic that is closed, Rick does not cover these ports in his port book - or elsewhere - so of no help. I hope some veterans here can help me ASAP.

I'd love to know thoughts and suggestions (from other Rick fans) as to what to do in these ports.
Thanks so much!

Hi,
Valencia has quite a few things to do for a day! The old town is beautiful, with its giant central market (Mercado Central), cute small plazas everywhere, and some interesting monuments (I like the LLotja de la Seda). You can also make your way to the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciènces (City of Arts and Science), very modern buildings (architect Santiago Calatrava), with a world-class aquarium (Oceanografic).
Cannot advise about Alicante.

Just get a different guide book. Lonely Planet sells Spain as an ebook, but for your needs, just buy the relevant chapters for your ports.
Post above has good recommendations for Valencia but get to the market in the morning as it closes soon after Noon. Valencia is the home of paella and good turron (nougat). Yum.
