Planning trip with 1 teen with sensory/autism needs, 1 10 year old in late November

We would like to travel to 3 cities if possible, starting with Barcelona. Have 2 children, one with sensory needs but who enjoys beaches, museums, space, art and is interested in traveling. Would like to be able to take it easy in 2-3 areas and find a small rhythm for around 7-9 non-flight days. Would appreciate recommendations for Barcelona, San Sebastian, Valencia, or cities that might not fit teen well.

Hi
I dont know if I can offer much on Spain, hopefully others will chime in. But I took my family to Italy, Austria, and Germany on a
trip in 2017 and my autistic son loved it. I think the exposure to a different environment than home really helps kids with special needs. My son too loved beaches, mountains, castles, museums and churches. I am sure Barcelona and San Sebastian would be great. Rest assured I am sure they will love It!

I wish I could offer more regarding Spain. Have a lovely trip!

Valencia would be a great option. You have the City of Arts and Sciences which has very impressive modern architecture, a science museum, and the Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe. Plus, there's a really good zoo on the other side of town, a beach, and it's super walkable with a large linear park winding across the city.

And, Madrid is a logical choice for a third city in my opinion with day trips to Segovia and Toledo as options. The Prado is pretty amazing for art. You have the Royal Palace with the big arms and armor collection, and lots of other museums which cater to a variety of interests.

... why spend precious time on trains and buses?... I'd suggest visiting Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, and taking a trip to Montserrat and Sitges (for example). These are all located within Catalonia, at a distance of no more than 2 hours or less from Barcelona.

Enric is a fantastic asset to this forum.
With only a week or so on the ground, I would concentrate on one area to minimize the upheaval of travel.

With 7-9 days I would stay in Barcelona and around.....so much to see in that region.......San Sebastián is far away and the casco Viejo is crowded and might not be an ideal spot for your child...

Example: I have about ten days in March for Catalunya. I have visited more times that I can count. With only that amount of time, I am planning Barcelona and maybe Girona.. That's all. Get acclimated, wander around different areas, take it easy...

For me it would be not smart not venture to another city in that space of time....

Agree with the excellent suggestions made by @Enric and @ekscrunchy. Barcelona alone will more than meet all of your interests and easily fill 7+ days. Plus, you have multiple options for easy day trips (including the Dali Theatre-Museum in Figueres https://www.salvador-dali.org/en/visit/dali-theatre-museum/) if you choose to wander farther. We did not scratch the surface with a day in Figueres and 4.5 days in Barcelona.

San Sebastian does not offer much for kids/teens other than a quick stop at Peine del Viento and, perhaps, nearby Chillida Leku.

Have a great trip!

I agree with the suggestion of Montserrat from Barcelona. It's gorgeous, and it can get you away from the Barcelona crowds. We also enjoyed Montjuic, which had great views, interesting sights, and was not horribly crowded. https://www.barcelona-life.com/barcelona/montjuic

You probably already know about the sunflower symbol, but in case you don't, that can help informed people (such as airlines staff) to be more aware and sensitive to your child's needs. https://hdsunflower.com/au/shop.html
