Take a look at Park Guell and the Gaudi sites. Both are interesting.
I agree with the suggestion of Park Guell and the other modernisme sites, like La Pedrera-Casa Mila. I highly recommend using the Rick Steves guide and Eyewitness Travel to see what peaks your interest. What is must see for me, might be different for you. One thing I like about the RS guides is that he lists top sites and ranks them. I don't always agree with his rankings, but it can be a helpful place to start.
Keep away from Las Ramblas for eating. The tapas scene can be fun, but there are barriers. We did a tapas tour with this group https://thebarcelonataste.com/ and had a great time. Highly recommended!
Montjuc Hill was a nice way to get up from the city center, get great views, and walk around (Castle, Olympic Stadium, Park); also enjoyed walking the beach and going to the top of W Hotel; took day trip to Sitges; walking around Cuitadella Park was also great--lots to look at.
The restaurant on top of the El Corte Ingles department store at the Plaça de Catalunya has a great variety of affordable foods and probably the best free view, day or night, in Barcelona.
After you visit Sagrada Familia, take the easy 10 minute walk to the Saint Pau complex. It is amazing, and you may wind up preferring Montaner to Gaudi!
Try a free walking tour with Gaudi as the subject. You will visit and understand so much better. The Sagrada Familia is a Gaudi.project. There are several other buildings and things on the tour. You do not go into any of them. You will have to do Sagrada Familia on your own, but you will now understand it.
Thanks Everyone, I appreciate the recommendations/feedback. With regards to restaurants, any recommendations besides tapas? we will be at the end of our trip and I am sure we will be looking for different food!
thanks
I highly recommend that you take a look at the YouTube Chanel by Tony Galvez called Road Trip Spain and Portugal. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to plan my trip (in addition to Rick's resources, of course!). He has many videos and gives wonderful, sensible guidance and tips for visiting Spain's wonderful cities: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCucEU3ZqAjhVr2WMMKNpc6Q (good grief, I see that I gave you the same info on both of your posts. Oh well, some other researcher might bump into it only once.)
I liked the lobster paella at Con Sole. I know this might be sort of a funny recommendation but there is this chain of restaurants in Spain called "Honest Greens". If you have hit your tapas limit, then I recommend a meal at Honest Greens if you want something healthy and fast. Great bowls, salads and entrees with beautiful vegetables and fruits, very creative and cheap!! I so wish "Honest Greens" was in the U.S.
For a real special meal, I highly recommend Tast-Ller. It was recommended to me by a forum member from Barcelona and all I can say is "Wow". https://www.tast-ller.com/en/ Twelve diners a night get treated to 10 to 12 course meal special prepared by Chef Mikel Peinador. Each morsel was so delicious. The courses are of a size that you do not overeat. Chef Mikel is also the server and the space is very intimate, like you are in his home. Each group of diners get their own table. As the person who suggested it to me, Chef Mikel is on the course to get a Michelin star. The cost was either 60 or 80 euros (I can't remember exactly) but a bargain considering the food and experience.
ITSV is spot on about Honest Greens... We've been in spain for two months. Salad! Vegetables! What a concept.
