Pileta Caves

Has anyone visited the Pileta Caves recently? I'm interested in neolithic history and would love to see some actual cave drawings. A previous post from 2013 said there wasn't much to the tour or interpretive information. Has that changed? And do you get to view the actual paintings? I looked at the website for the Nerja Caves, and while it looks like a pretty robust interpretive center and tour of the caves, you apparently don't get to view the actual drawings due to preservation requirements.

I'm planning to do a lot more travel in Europe when we retire and I'm aware there are other robust neolithic sites to see throughout europe.

Haven’t been recently, but review its hours and schedule to ensure it works with your itinerary. My guess is all tours are in Spanish.

It’s open every day and tickets (20€ per person) need to be purchased in advance. During the week there are 1 hour tours at 11:30 and 13:00. On weekends tours are at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 16:00. Those without advance tickets will be accommodated if there is space available, and one must be at the cave 20 minutes before the tour begins or risk losing your spot.

The cave cannot accommodate people with mobility issues, it’s a 10 minutes walk from the parking lot, and there are 101 stairs of differing heights.

Presently, there is no way to make online reservations.

Unless things have changed, the path inside the cave is NOT level, so one needs to watch their footing. The cave is away from any village so a rental car is probably best for getting to/from it.
