Phoning in Spain

Just so I know I got it correctly.....if I am phoning IN Spain to someone IN Spain, I use just the 9 digit number. If I am calling from say the US, then I need the 34 digit before the 9 digit number. Am I correct ? Do they have different "area codes" in the different parts of the country or is that part of the 9 digit number? Thank you

YES.

It's part of the 9-digit number. Also for info, numbers starting with 6 or 7 are mobile numbers (I believe you say "cellular"), starting with 8 (ie 803, 806 or 807) are premium services, and they charge by the minute, handsomely! The only exception is 800 numbers which, like 900, are toll-free numbers (ie. info services on some companies)

Fans,

Can you please clarify your question?

Will you be using your mobile phone with a SIM card from Spain or with an international plan provided by your U.S. based telephone company?

If you will have a SIM card from Spain, then all you need to do is dial the 9 digits to call within Spain [you will get a new (local) phone number that works with your new local SIM card]

If you will be using your U.S. phone service with an international plan, then you will need to do the following (which is what you need to do when calling from the U.S.):

  1. Dial 011 (U.S. exit code)
  2. then dial 34 (Country code for Spain)
  3. then the phone number (9 digits)

Hope this helps!
