We are in the process of getting an IDP for my husband since we will be renting a car for three days in the pueblos blancos area. I always take our family's passport photos (need 2 for IDP) so I looked up the requirements for passport photos so I would get the measurements correct. They now state that glasses may not be worn for the photo. My husband always wears glasses, in fact, when he takes them off, he better be certain to remember where he puts them! So I did take his photo without his glasses for the IDP. However, he is wearing glasses in the photo on his passport which still has about 10 months left on it. We are leaving soon so there is no concern about having 6 months left on his passport. I'm assuming/guessing/hoping he will not have a problem with the passport? In all other ways, he pretty much looks the same as his picture.
And here is the other problem that I've just realized. The expiration date on his driver's license is the day before we leave on our trip. There is a grace period, but I'm not sure they'll care so much about a grace period in Spain. He waited to get it renewed because Minnesota finally (they say) figured out how they are going to deal with the "Real ID". It seems they are still having administrative problems with it. He didn't want to go in this month to renew, because they'd either take the current license or clip it, and we are hearing it is taking a very long time for people to be get their licenses. So now I'm thinking he should go and renew, and hopefully he can keep his current license (I'm pretty sure of this) and will get a receipt that will show his license has been renewed. Thoughts?
I, myself, would really prefer to not drive through the mountains between Sevilla and Granada. Plus, I'm typically the navigator since I can read a map, have done all the trip planning and he doesn't know how to use GPS or iphone navigation. I guess I can get a IDP for myself which hopefully I'd never use.
