Paseo del arte tickets in Madrid

Hi guys,

So we are buying all the tickets for our trip to Spain. We would like to buy the combo ticket for 3 museums in Madrid as we will be going to all 3 of them. Some questions we had that we could not find answers on:

1) How far in advance can they be bought - I tried to purchase them and got an error saying those tickets cannot be purchased for the date selected
2) Do they allow you to skip the line? Some sites say that they do, some say the opposite.
3) Which museum would be the best to pickup the ticket (in terms of time saved).

Thank you!

I used the Paseo del Arte ticket in 2015 but am embarrassed to say that I don't remember whether it conferred any skip-the-line advantage. I was quite lucky to find rather inconsequential lines during my visit. I think Rick discusses how the combo ticket works in his "Spain" book.

I did not buy the ticket in advance; I simply got it at the first museum I visited, which I think was the Thyssen. It definitely was not the Prado. The Prado is the one likeliest to have a significant line, so I would try to buy or pick up the card at one of the other two museums if possible. The three museums are fairly close together.

The Prado is large. If you're interested in at least walking through the whole collection, it will be lot to take in one visit. I was lucky to hit Museum Day last year when entry was free (and the museum somehow wasn't swamped), so I was able to visit twice for a total of about 5 hours.

I bought mine at the Reina Sofia. The ticket line is not an issue at the two smaller museums, so buy the pass there.
The pass allows you to skip the ticket line only. You still must wait in the security line, which is fairly formidable at the Prado. Enter through the Jerónimos entrance, closer to the Thyssen than the Reina Sofia. This is likeliest to have the shortest security line, which will still probably be long. It is 100% worth the wait, however.
