Paseo del Arte pass

I was looking at the Paseo del Arte pass and I don't quite understand it (and a search is showing no real recent threads). We want to visit the Prado, Reina Sophia and Thyssen-Bornemisza (one a day) March 17, 18, and 19.

If we purchase this ticket online, it looks like you have to redeem it at the museum you purchased it from. But there is no way to select a timed entry, so how do I know if we can use it on the day/time we want? Is there a skip the line feature?

I emailed the Prado and this was the response: Thank you for contacting us.

Paseo del Arte Pass allows one visit to each of the three museums (Museo del Prado, Museo Reina Sofía and Museo Thyssen Bornemisza) for one year from the date of purchase.

You can buy this kind of ticket in all these museums. If you buy it in Museo del Prado Website, the date and hour selected on the Calendar will correspond to the ones concerning the visit to the Museo del Prado. It does not grant a direct access to the temporary exhibitions located at the Jerónimos building. Please check availability to these temporary exhibitions at the ticket office on the day of your visit (subject to capacity control).

We inform you that in order to purchase your Art Walk in our website you can click on the link below:

https://entradas.museodelprado.es/

You must click on the option ‘More tickets’. Once you have opened the drop-down menu, at the bottom you should look for ‘Paseo del Arte’ or ‘Art Walk”.

This ticket is also available at the ticket office daily from 9:45h, as long as there are time slots available considering the capacity control.

If you buy your Art Walk in another museum, collect your tickets first and then you will be able to visit us once without an appointment within one year from the date of purchase. The date of your visit present your collected tickets in our ticket office to redeem them.

Is it better to just buy a ticket for the day/time we want to go for each museum, or buy this ticket ahead of our trip?

Thanks!

Personal preference. Pre purchasing locks you into a schedule and tickets are generally not refundable. If you bought the pass and decided to skip one of the museums, it may not be such a good deal.

When I went to the site, I selected a date then clicked on General Admission. Then I selected Art Walk Pass and entered the number of tickets. On the same page, scroll down and click on the red choose a time (eligir hora) box and the available morning and afternoon time slots came up.

After selecting a time and continuing, the time you selected shows up beneath the choose a time slot and above the total price. Select continue and a summary of your purchase comes up.

You will then be asked to provide your email, select that you read the terms and conditions, if you want to receive their newsletter, and if you want your bill sent. Then, name, address, zip code, country (estados unidos), state, city, and phone number (area code and number, no spaces or dashes).

Beneath the name box, select I have a foreign identity document and enter your passport number in the box. When all information has been added, the continue with payment butt will turn red and you can proceed to pay.

As stated in its response, the date and time only applies to the Prado. You can visit the other museum whenever you want at a time of your choosing.

Hope this helps.

Am I reading correctly that if you buy the Paseo del Arte Pass through the Prado you can choose a date and time and then can use this to enter the Prado at the timed ticket line without having to go to the ticket office?

Do you have to go to the ticket office at the Thyssen or Reina Sofía to get a timed ticket or can you just enter those museums directly with the Pass? I've read conflicting reports on this, including jaimeelsabio post above that you can just enter them whenever you want without having to go to the ticket offices or being subject to availability limits.

We intend to go to all three museums. While we'd like to save some money with the Pass, it's not worth it to us if we're going to have to spend more time on lines than if we just bought timed tickets to all three museums or risk tickets not being available when we want to the Thyssen or Reina Sophia.

@Richard - the bold faced line is the one you’re interested in. This is General Information about the pass. You can also contact the museum directly [email protected]

Please note that children under 18 years of age are admitted free of charge to all three museums.

This pass can be used for one year from the time of issuance. It allows only one visit to each museum, which does not have to be on the same day. The date selected in the reservation is the date on which the voucher is activated, from that moment on you will have one year to use it.

Please note that the Reina Sofia Museum is closed on Tuesdays.

To visit the Prado Museum it is necessary to exchange the voucher received at the ticket office. For visits to the Museo Nacional Thyssen Bornemisza and the Museo Reina Sofia, you can show the ticket directly to your email.

From the Thyssen museum website: Skip the queues and walk straight into the Thyssen with your Art Walk Pass.

From the Reina Sofía site: You can visit the Museum at the following times:
Monday to Saturday (closed Tuesday): 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sundays: from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

Finally and most importantly: Once the tickets have been purchased, no changes or refunds will be made.

@jaimeelsabio That's very helpful. Thank you. Do have a link for the information you quote? Or is it from an email?

The Prado site lets you book a specific time with the pass.

Thyssen says "Skip the queues and walk straight into the Thyssen with your Art Walk Pass". https://www.museothyssen.org/en/paseo-arte-card-museums-madrid That's better than needing a timed ticket.

I can't find similar language for Reina Sofia.

@jaimeelsabio I purchased my pass from the Prado, and was able to select a date and time. I did not add my passport number though, I hope that is not going to be an issue. I got the tickets immediately, and find it says the following in the email: You have purchased individual tickets for the Museo Nacional del Prado. These tickets require the presentation of a valid document at the ticket office that justifies the reduced or free access regime or Paseo del Arte ticket. The submitted accreditation must be an official and distinctively up-to-date document where the reduction and/or free motive is specified. If the established terms are not fulfilled general ticket price will be applied. I assume that means present my passport?

Please check that the information included in the attached document is correct.

In case you wish to change the date of the visit or the time pass for the temporary exhibitions, please access the MY TICKETS section through here (linked site), until the day prior to the visit. @richard as I mentioned above, I purchased from the Prado, and selected the date and time. It looks like we have to activate the tickets from a specific gate. I will report back how it worked.

@ BA in SOMD Please do report back.

When I did a test run through of purchasing the Pass from the Prado it did not ask me for an ID, just name, address, email, then brought me to the payment page. Having to go to the Prado ticket office to activate seems odd. I can understand it if you get a discount due to age, etc., but not for the Pass. The Pass seems available to all, so I don't see what they want you to justify.

Off topic, but how was passport control for arrival at MAD?

@BA in SOMD - yes, that would be a passport. As you didn’t get a reduced or free ticket, they may ask for the passport to verify your are the person the ticket was sold to. To the best of my knowledge there’s only one entrance to the Prado, maybe a couple tickets windows, but only one entrance.

@richard - that information came from a third party vendor of tickets, NOT the official site.

I wrote to the Prado to ask about going to the ticket office and got a generic reply. I wrote back and asked

If we buy the Paseo del Arte Pass through https://entradas.museodelprado.es/ and do not wish to see a temporary exhibition, can we enter the Museuo del Prado at the date and time selected without visiting the ticket office?

The reply:

Please note that to exchange your reservation, you must go to the museum ticket office, regardless of whether you wish to visit the collection plus the exhibitions or just the collection.

I then wrote back:

If we just buy a regular timed ticket at https://entradas.museodelprado.es/, without a discount or Paseo del Arte Pass, and want to just visit the Museuo del Prado collection without any exhibition, can we enter at the date and time selected without visiting the ticket office?

The [non]reply:

We would like to inform you that the Paseo del Arte ticket must be collected from the museum ticket office in order to be used at the other two museums.

We bought the Paseo del Arte ticket through the Thyssen website - the Prado website was confusing and seemed to indicate that you had to choose a date and time but Thyssen just sent a PDF. My understanding is that it is good for a year after purchase and you can go in anytime. We used ours at the Prado and the Reina Sofia today no problem. We just showed them the ticket at the entrance.

By the way, at the Prado go to the Jeronimo entrance and ask someone with a badge (people are there to help) where to stand. They will show you to a shorter line where you get an actual paper ticket to enter (why you need two tix I don't know). Take that ticket right to the entrance- don't stand in the long line to buy tickets or the possible long line of people waiting to get in. You get to skip the line.

At Reina Sofia also don't wait in the line for tickets. Go inside and show them your Paseo del Arte and they'll show you where to get their entrance ticket.

Hope this helps.

Final note. Today we used our Paseo del Arte pass for the Thyssen. You can go right to the Collections after entering the museum and they scan you in.

To summarize, I recommend buying this pass if you plan on visiting the Prado, Regina Sofia, and Thyssen. You save a little money and a LOT of time not standing in line. To me, it would be worth it even if you didn't visit all three for the time saving. We had no problem buying the pass through the Thyssen museum web site and the PDF file/email worked everywhere.

@terrynpeg89 What time of day did you go to the Prado?

"Take that ticket right to the entrance- don't stand in the long line to buy tickets or the possible long line of people waiting to get in. You get to skip the line."

The long line of people waiting to get in - are these people with tickets? If so, do you get a shorter line with the ticket you got from the ticket office with a Pass than people with regular tickets?

"At Reina Sofia also don't wait in the line for tickets. Go inside and show them your Paseo del Arte and they'll show you where to get their entrance ticket."

Does this mean you need an entrance ticket for the Reina Sofia, but you don't have to use the regular ticket office to get it?

At the Prado, there one long line of people to get tickets and another long line of people with tickets. Once you get your pass (in a short line) you can walk right up to the entrance. So yes all these people lined up near the entrance have tickets.

At Reina Sofia there is a line for tickets. Walk in and show your Paseo de Arte pass to ticket checkers and they'll let you go to the front of this ticket line to get your museum pass.

@terrynpeg89

What time of day and day of the week was your Prado visit?

Thanks!

We went to the Prado on a Friday at 10 AM right when it opened and the lines we long then. I have read that it is less busy in the afternoon but not sure about that - it seemed just as busy when we left 3+ hours later. Other days might be better but I don't know.
