Parking in Ronda with luggage

We are planning on picking up a car in Granada at the train station and driving to Seville with a stop in Ronda. We will have our backpacks in the car. Can anyone suggest a safe place to leave the car for a few hours while we have lunch and walk around a bit? Thanks!

Last September we parked in an open, public, well sign-posted lot in Ronda with luggage in the car and had no problem. Based on our experience, though, Ronda is not worth the effort. For us, it was extremely crowded, touristy and unwelcoming — the only place of 17 days in Andalucia that we would not repeat. However, we enjoyed the adjacent village of Arriate (especially Taberna Malacaña!) and the nearby El Caminito del Rey was a highlight of our trip.

I respectfully disagree that Ronda isn’t worth the effort, but that’s for you to decide. During the main tourist season it does get crowded. Going off season helps.

Regarding your specific question, we parked at Parking Ronda when we spent a couple nights there. It’s by Terraza Bar El Castillo. There are other lots in town and you can look them up on Google maps. As long as you follow a few general guidelines you should be fine.

Don’t leave anything in sight, e.g., luggage, coins, maps, cables, water bottles, etc.
Don’t open the luggage compartment after parking. Have everything put away before you park. That way anybody watching won’t know there’s something inside. That will require you stop outside of town to rearrange things.
If possible, back into the parking space close to a wall or row of bushes so the hatchback/trunk cannot be accessed/opened and a person won’t fit between the wall and car.
Don’t park in a remote location.

If you don’t mind walking, there are even a couple free lots, e.g., Aparcamiento gratuito Ronda, C. Corregidor Francisco Arias, 14. For the adventurous, there’s a free lot downhill from the Mirador La Hoya del Tajo. It affords a good view of the bridge. The downside is you need to walk uphill to get into the town and it is remote. However, you could go there take a couple photos then park in town.
