Packing: Spain and Portugal (May 15 - June 28)

This is our itinerary. Barcelona - Madrid - Grenada - Nerja - Ronda - Sevilla - Algarve - Evora - Lisbon - Nazare - Coimbra and Porto.

We are packing and trying our best to eliminate what we hopefully won't need.

Would we require a fleece jacket or would a lighter sweatshirt jacked work (along with a rain coat).

Would you suggest rain pants or tights? or just lightweight easy dry pants?

Would you pack a hat and mitts, in case?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

We were there around the same time in 2017 and I wore sandals(closed toe Keen) the entire time. So my memory is that it was quite warm then.

Will you be doing extensive outdoor activity like hiking or going into mountains? If not, then rain pants are overkill. Regular pants that dry reasonably quickly will be fine for walking around towns or light hiking.

Also nothing in the weather forecast or averages for those towns indicates than an average person would want a winter type hat or mittens. Or a fleece coat. A sweatshirt and raincoat would be fine. Make sure the sweatshirt can go under the rain coat in case of cold rain.
The overnight lows are in the 50s. To me that’s sweatshirt, pants, no hat weather.

My advice - aim more towards summer. By June it’s much more likely to be hot and you’d want a sun hat and breathable fabric.

Source: was in Lisbon in March. Highs in the 50s-60s, plenty of rain some days. Did fine with a raincoat, jeans or light pants, and a variety of shirts, some long sleeve, some short sleeve, some worn with cardigans/sweaters.
Have been in Spain in May/June and was more likely to need a swimsuit than a sweatshirt, let alone mittens!

was in Lisbon and Madrid in March. lighter sweatshirt jacket and any lightweight pants is more than enough for May-June. pack light - in the bigger cities you are always go a H&M, Zara or Primark and but something in a pinch. I would pack atleast a cap because the sun can be brutal if you are sightseeing the whole day - esp. in Andalucía.

You may want a light cardigan for the cool, windy Algarve evenings. You are more likely to need a sun hat than a woolly hat or gloves.

Granada is at altitude and therefore a bit cooler. The end of June is going to be hot. I wouldn’t take waterproof trousers.
