The call these warm, decry dust storms La Calima. I experienced two while in the Canary Islands, where there rather common.
While uncomfortable, the do impart a surreal, dramatic energy which is a unique experience.
Yes, it reached France, too. A lot of mud around and yellow skies.
I live in Bilbao, almost the fartherst you can get from the Sahara in Spain, and it´s an eerie atmosphere, but out in the streets it´s business as usual, no masks. Cars covered in dust, calima is supposed to disappear tonight and we are getting plenty of rain tomorrow. Poor cars...
I'm used to getting Sahara sand on my car here in England 2 or 3 times a year.... Not really a problem...
