We will be on a cruise ship in September that stops in Gijon. We will only be there for the day. Which of these two cities would you pick and what would you do?

Oviedo is more museum/monument-oriented if that is your thing. There is a good Fine Arts museum and an Archeology museum, an interesting cathedral, stunning 8th c. churches in the outskirts...
But Gijon has a good atmosphere, a pretty old town (more atmospheric than Oviedo IMO), and the coastal setting is more pleasant.
So there is no obvious answer here!
