Oviedo Lodging

My granddaughter spent a college semester in Oviedo several years ago, living with a local family. She fell in love with the city and became fluent in Spanish. Ever since she returned, she's been longing to return to Spain; her only deterrent being financial. She has made several life-changing decisions recently, and so has decided to "treat herself" to a return visit to Oviedo next month, October....on a budget.
She wants help with booking lodging in Oviedo, and will be coming over to our house tomorrow because she thinks I can help her. Having never been to Oviedo, I am clueless...but I do know where I can find help....here, on the Forum!

She will depend on public transportation. She'll be flying in and out of Madrid, and so will plan on at least one night in Madrid prior to flying home because she just told me it is "6 hour bus trip" between Oviedo and Madrid.

Any recommendation for lodging in Oviedo will be appreciated. Affordable, yet in a safe and convenient area.
I also told her she should plan time in Madrid...mainly because I like Madrid and I think it is often overlooked because of Barcelona.
Muchas Gracias
Carol

Not sure if you are looking for a hotel recommendation or something long term. We enjoyed our stay at Barceló Oviedo Cervantes last September. If for something long term, perhaps her host family can offer suggestions.

mml: This is a short visit to Orviedo. I was thinking of hotel suggestions, but am open to other short stay accommodations.
I just looked up Hotel Oviedo Cervantes. Price is very reasonable. Thanks! What were the pros and cons of staying there?

I’d also recommend the Oviedo Barcelo Cervantes, we were there just last week. Good location, great breakfast, easy walk from train station, some nice cafes nearby and staff also very nice.

We found Oviedo nice and low key, we took an easy day trip to Gijon. After Oviedo we took the train to Segovia for two nights and are currently in Madrid.

I’d suggest she look at train travel between Madrid and Oviedo, there are more rail carriers now making travel more affordable especially with advance booking. We flew into Madrid and because we had an early train to Oviedo the next morning we opted to stay in the Only You Hotel Atocha and would highly recommend it, location a quick walk and elevator to the station, great breakfast in their rooftop restaurant (with great views), and they also had a nice bakery, bar, and restaurant in the lobby. There is a lot of construction/roadwork in the area but it did not bother us.
One additional note, the train from Madrid to Oviedo leaves from the Charmatin station, but I did not like the looks of the hotels in that area - so we chose to stay near Atocha and make the morning commute to Chamartin. Due to construction that is a little complicated, but we watched a YouTube video beforehand and found the signage clear and easy to follow.

Congrats to your granddaughter on the life changing decisions and hope she has a wonderful trip!

We liked the NH, next to Casa Fermin, which was our favorite restaurant in Oviedo city.
