Oviedo & Gijón timing

Hello

Looking to visit both cities in late May. We would arrive on a Thursday and do 4 nights in each. Based on the vibe nightlife and restaurants etc is it best to do Oviedo on the weekend whereas we end up in Gijon Tues- Fri? Not sure if one has more university life that lends itself to weekday activities. Not looking for clubs just lively evenings

Thanks

Back in 2016 I stayed in Oviedo (found it historic but quiet) and daytripped to Gijon, which has much less historic architecture remaining, mainly just some nice late-19C/early-20C buildings. I'm not remotely a nightlife person and wasn't in Gijon during the evening, but I gather from my reading that Gijon is where the folks in Oviedo go for entertainment. I'd guess Gijon is the place to be over the weekend.

I don't know that the restaurant situation varies much; perhaps someone else can comment on that.

I think that Calle Gascona in Oviedo would be very lively on weekends; its lined with cider houses that draw lots of young persons (not all young, though)..Thursday nights seem to be lively in many Spanish cities as well.

Unless you are only going for nightlife, four nights in each would be too much for me when there is so much more to explore not far away.... northern Asturias, going south even just as far as Cangas del Onis and Arriondas offers a very different environment.
