What is your recommendation for a full day organized bus tour from Madrid to Toledo? Yes. A bus tour. I will be traveling solo and want someone else to do all of the arranging. And, have the organization help me learn about Toledo. Does anyone have a recommendation?
We're just going to take a train to Toledo for a day--and then return to Madrid.
it will be easier and faster to take train from Madrid to Toledo on RENFE website. Faster and cheaper. And then hire a local guide in Toledo. If you're looking for someone, I can share contacts of the guide my friends used before.
We did not take this company's mini-van tour to Toledo (we went with Segovia), but we were very happy with the services and tour provided by Spanish Trails. The small-group tours require a minimum of two people, but I understand that the Toledo tours are so popular that shouldn't be a problem.
Taking the train to Toledo is probably the easiest thing to do in Spain, either you can buy a ticket now online or when you get to Madrid you can go to the train station and buy your ticket at the desk. When you arrive at Toledo there are many walking tours, some are free and some are themed for about 10 euros for 2 hrs. I can give you some walking tours examples if you wish.
Paying over 70 euros for a bus tour to and from Madrid is crazy IMO especially for a solo traveler. If you have any questions about how to purchase train tickets let me know.
Thank you for all of your suggestions. I will look into each idea.
We did a half day tour to Toledo. I think that a full day tour would be better. There was lots of walking and not very much time at all in the Cathedral. If you read the description in the self guided tour of the Cathedral in Ricks book, it is evident that the tour did not allow for much time at all to absorb its grandeur. I think that is my general beef with those tours. They rush you around without adequate time to enjoy looking at anything. Rather its a, here it is, now quickly we must move on. There are always other tour groups one is competing with. We are going back to Spain and are including a night there to be able to go back and appreciate what were rushed through. The day we went it was a nasty foggy day.
Toledo is worth multiple nights, so I'd plan to spend a full day there. There are many lovely historic buildings. I especially liked the Mudejar architecture, and I loved just wandering through the medieval streets. Then there's the cathedral and the El Greco Museum, plus a lot more. Consult a guidebook or TripAdvisor's Things To Do list. I can't imagine I would be pleased at the way any full-day tour allocated its time among the various sights. I'd much prefer to set my own pace. A walking tour would be a good introduction.
