Only one night in Barcelona....

On June 25th, my wife and I will be spending the night in Barcelona before leaving on a cruise the following day.

Unfortunately, we will be arriving via train around 4pm, which does not give us much to me check in to our hotel (which we have not yet chosen) and explore the area.

So.......if anyone had only 6-7 hours in which to explore that beautiful city....what would you do/see?

I'll also take suggestions on a hotel for the night, in the Placa Catalunya area :)

Thanks,
Scott

Footnote: I just noticed that our ship does not leave until 6pm. So we'll have some time before departure to explore!

I stayed in the Hotel Constanza near the Placa Catalunya in 2014 before a cruise and I would recommend it.

You probably won't have time to see much the evening you arrive. Plan on walking and exploring while you're on your way to eat. I'll let others make dinner recommendations. I was with my parents which limited my dining adventures. I can tell you that the hotel I recommended has a decent restaurant for dinner and/or breakfast. As for sites to see, the Picasso Museum in the gothic quarter is open until 7:00 (9:30 on Thursdays) if that works out for you.

The day of your departure I suspect everyone will tell you to see the Sagrada Familia which is an iconic sight in Barcelona and well worth a visit. Walking Las Ramblas is also a common must do. In the gothic quarter the Picasso museum I mentioned above and the Barcelona cathedral are both nice. You may be able to see your cruise ship from the top of the cathedral.

Have fun!

Check out the Magic Fountains of Monjuic (by Plaza Espana) on the night of Sat 25 June.
Shows are at 2100 / 2130 / 2200 / 2230

For one intense day on Sunday 26th before your cruise departs...
Book the first available entry time for Sagrada Familia (Gaudi)
Metro to Diagonal for a walk down Barcelona’s majestic boulevard, Passeig de Gracia
Casa Mila (Gaudi) is on the left & Casa Batllo (Gaudi) is on the right as you head down
Thru Placa de Catalunya, Barcelona’s main square and you will be at the top of the Ramblas
Walking from top to bottom you will pass La Boqueria markets on the right (closed Sunday)
Left side thru the Gothic Quarter to the Cathedral. Further along to Placa Reial on the left side
Finally, you will reach the port and the column with Christopher Columbus gesturing atop

For a hotel you need to give some idea of budget.
