Online free first Sunday ticket help—Barcelona

Hello! My family and I will be in Barcelona on the first Sunday of the month. The ticket purchasing window is open, but I cannot seem to find the free tickets for the museums we would like to visit (This is true for Madrid’s free-entry windows on weeknights to the Prado and Reina Sophia I’ve been looking for as well). I select the day and the only thing that comes up are paid tickets. I am three months away from the trip, so while maybe some of those tickets are sold out, I can’t believe ALL of them are, especially because the purchasing windows have only recently become available. What am I missing?

On the Reina Sofía website, select English as the language if the page doesn’t automatically translate to English.
Scroll down to free admission (ENTRADA GENERAL GRATUITA) and click on Buy.
Select the date you want to visit (I selected 01 April).
Since free Sunday hours are 12:30-14:00, they appear.
Click on the time slot and a How Many People Will Be Coming pops up.
Click on the plus sign. There can be as many as 7 people/free tickets..
Click continue and it will ask for name, phone number, email, etc.
Then click on the reserve button.

The Prado website only went out to 10 March, but even then the free tickets area was greyed out. No idea why. The last time we visited in 2022 during the free hours we just lined up about 40 minutes before the free hours started. About 20 minutes before opening the free tickets were handed out with a time slot. When it opened, we just walked up and showed the ticket. Nobody paid attention to the time that was on it.

  1. Most of the museums/sites in Barcelona are private, and they're always packed, so no free tickets.
  2. Some public museums have free days, but not necessarily on the same day.
