One week in Northeastern Spain

We are looking for ideas for a one week driving trip in Northeastern Spain. By the time we get the car we will have already been to Barcelona and Zaragoza. . . . . Where should we go from there before arriving in Barcelona to fly out after 7 days? We have previously visited Laguardia (loved it!), Bilbao and San Sebastian. I'm assuming Pamplona and Montserrat. . . What else should we see in this part of Spain?

Besides Pamplona, it appears that you have done the main drawcards here - Bilbao and San Sebastian.

Perhaps head south from Zaragoza to enjoy hidden architectural wonders of Aragon.
Calatayud http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres/ciudades-pueblos/otros-destinos/calatayud.html
Daroca http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres/ciudades-pueblos/otros-destinos/daroca.html

Hilltop Morella in Valencia Province has a wonderful castle.

Thanks! That should do it. We love Spain and this should round out our adventures.

I did a similar routing (over less time) in 2011 and it was a revelation. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/378
I became obsessed by the Mudejar architecture - patterned brickwork and bright coloured roof tiles.
Being off the main tourist path you also get an authentic uncrowded experience.

In Zaragoza we stayed here http://www.hotelsauce.com/en/
In Teruel we stayed here http://www.sercotelhoteles.com/hotel-torico-plaza-en-teruel.htm
In Morella we stayed here http://www.lafondamoreno.com/
All were good choices.

Unfortunately we did not have time to get to Albarracin, so I want a full report of what I missed. Enjoy.
And you didn't mention when you are travelling - these places get quite hot during the day in summer.

This Spain adventure (Unfortunately) is at the end of an extended vacation, so we will be there in June. Not the best time, but it is what it is. I'll buy a hat. Thanks for your help and your concern. We live in the desert, so we're used to the heat. Ha!

How about Santas Creus? Should we visit both Poblet Monastery and Santas Creus or pick one? Can these be successfully visited alone or is a tour required?

Founded in 1150 by Cistercian monks from France, Poblet Monastery was the first of three sister monasteries, known as the Cistercian Triangle. Poblet, along with the other two monasteries of Vallbona de les Monges and Santes Creus, helped consolidate power in 12th century Catalonia. http://www.larutadelcister.info/en

Note the visiting hours for each monastery, as they may close during siesta time. Poblet is by far the standout, but I enjoyed Santes Creus as well, and unfortunately missed entry to Vallbona de les Monges.

Poblet
From Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 12.30 and 15.00 to 17.25
Sundays and holidays from 10.30 to 12.25 and 15.00 to 17.25

Santes Creus
From Tuesday to Sunday (including holidays) from 10.00 to 19.00 (+30')

Vallbona de les Monges
From Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30 to 13.30 and 16.30 to 18.30
Sundays and holidays from 12.00 to 13.30 and 16.30 to 18.30

As long as we have this going. . . . What are your recommendations for a "Wind Down" day or two on the Costa Brava to include Stiges south of Barcelona and on up to Cadaques and Figueres. We might opt fro staying closer to Barcelona to prepare for our return home. Recommendations? We will be driving.

^^^ The other option is to stay more in Catalunya and the Pyrenees. Tarragona, Sitges, Montserrat, the cava wine region, up the Costa Brava, Girona, Figueres (for the Dali Museum only), Cadaques, and then into the Pyranees. Besalu, some of the national parks, maybe as far as Andorra (though I'm told there really isn't anything to do there if you don't ski). Either option (this or the one David suggested) would offer you plenty and more for a week driving.

Sitges is somewhere you don't need a car. It's an easy 30min train ride from Barcelona Sants. It's a lively resort area with wide sandy beaches and good restaurants along the seafront promenade. You get an eclectic mix of visitors, from families to young people and a very obvious gay crowd, mixing with the old time residents.

Cadaques definitely requires a car, and is approx 3.5hrs drive from Barcelona. The town has great atmosphere, but the beaches are rocky, and we always struggle to find good food here. Dali, of course, is a drawcard with Figueres and Port Lligat nearby.
