We are driving from Barcelona to San Sebastian in late August. We would love to spend a night somewhere along the way and possibly do a day hike near the Pyrenees. Is this possible? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Between Barcelona and San Sebastián we spent two nights in Canfranc Estacion--near the Spanish/French border: loads of hiking trails. We stayed at Hotel Saint Cristina--rustic, but relatively inexpensive. We bounced across the border all day hiking from Astun into France and then a quick trip into Pyrenees National Park in France.
