Got a direct flight out of Toronto to Madrid to start a RS tour of Andalusia. Will get to Madrid around 11am and will get a train the next day to Cordoba to start tour. Now I know that is not a lot of time for Madrid but any suggestions for a whirlwind stop in Madrid. I was thinking Royal Palace and Prado. Thanks.
Those were my first thoughts!
Or - if you are jet lagged and a museum is too much, wander through the city - very, very walkable and much to see. Link to tourist map: https://www.esmadrid.com/en/tourist-areas-map
I love museums, but I know when I have just arrived in Europe, even the best of the best can sometimes be a slog rather than a joy.
To be honest, not sure if you would have time for both, choose one or the other. Basically, if you even get to central Madrid at 11:00 (as opposed to the airport) I would head to one or the other, both may require advanced tickets. That will take you to mid, to late afternoon. After that, I would concentrate my time on settling into your hotel, then maybe hitting some tapas bars, maybe the Mercado San Miquel, or the Calle de la Cava Baja. Then you will be ready for an early evening.
After a night a no sleep don’t visit a museum. You need to be walking not standing. Download Rick Steves app on your phone and take his Madrid self-guided walking tour. A map with directions is also detailed in his guidebook.
Would suggest you go to Reina Sofia to view Guernica, take a self-guided walking tour and have an awesome dinner at SDD2 or Tres por Cuatro.
