Hiya,
Does anyone have experience traveling to San Sebastián in early February? I expect cooler temps and some rain, but am wondering if off-season travel will also mean fewer businesses/restaurants open.

Save it for another trip. Go to San Sebastian to escape the summer heat and southern Spain to get out of the cold.

February should be cold and rainy all over northern Spain. We´ve just had a week of snow in many areas of the Basque Country (I live just a mile off the coast and the mountains close to my place are covered in snow), hail, rain and low temperatures, but the week ahead looks just cold (Celsius temperatures from 0 to 12º). No snow in Donostia-San Sebastian, though, just in the mountains around the city. Carnivals are from Feb 16 to Feb 22, and I see no reason for closure of most places in February...there are hundreds of bars and restaurants in the city and you should have no issues in finding lots of good places open.
