Not Enough Time in Andalucia -- in Feb w/ Kids

Fellow travelers,

We are visiting Spain next February with our two daughters, age 11 and 8. We plan to spend 3 or 4 days in Barcelona and then fly to Granada. We'll have 4 days in the Andalucia region before flying back to NYC from Seville.

We are looking for recommendations about how to handle the Andalucia portion of our trip. We are most excited about seeing the Alhambra, but we are also interested in visiting Seville. Can we manage this without changing hotels in different cities? Is a day trip from Granada to Seville an option? Should we base ourselves in Granada or Seville?

I am also happy to take suggestions about hotels or apartments in Granada and/or Seville.

Thank you for your help. We've done plenty of research on Barcelona, but I'm finding the Andalucia portion of our trip confusing.

I found Seville so much more interesting than Granada. Even Seville's Alcazar was better for me than than the Alhambra. With a short trip you also will spend a lot of time getting to and from Granada, and if you want to spend time in Andalucia, it's much closer to Seville. You know what I would vote for!

Unless the new Ave line is up and running, it's a few hours between Granada and Seville, I wouldn't think it would be a good day trip, probably better to switch hotels and only make the trip once.

Like Ruth, my teenager and I found Seville a lot more interesting than Granada--just a lot more to see and do there, more interesting to just walk around, too. The Alhambra we found wonderful and the Royal Chapel in Granada was interesting if you're at all interested in Ferdinand and Isabella, but not a lot else there, in our opinion, certainly not things I'd give up time in Seville for!

In Seville, we stayed at Hotel Royal Alcazar and recommend it. It was not super plush, but clean and very comfortable and the location was just fantastic--it's right next to the Royal Palace, about a block from the Cathedral, short walk to the Maria Luisa Park, close to taxi stands, etc.

Also, if the Ave line isn't running, I'd recommend comparing bus schedules and train schedules between Seville and Granada--the travel time is almost identical and when we were there there were more buses running so more choices to fit around the other things we wanted to do.
