Northern/Northwestern Spain: Where to Start/End? How to Sequence?

My wife and I are planning an eight (8)-day trip to Spain during mid-June 2026. For a variety of reasons, our must-see destinations are:

  1. Santiago de Compostela;
  2. Somewhere along the Costa da Morte — perhaps Muxía;
  3. Alcalá de Henares.

In another thread, someone recommended a survey of Northern Spain by flying into BCN, taking the AVE to Zaragoza, staying there for one or two nights, and continuing from there to points north and west along the northern coast. I'm wondering whether it makes sense to try to do this towards the beginning of the trip to work in a stop or two at, e.g., Bilbao or Santander, before ending up at the above-mentioned points toward the end of the trip.

Or, alternatively, does it make more sense to simply focus on Galicia — and visit other places there besides SDC and Muxía, like A Coruña — as opposed to trying to squeeze a stop or two in the Basque Country, Asturias, or Cantabria, before ending (or starting) at ALH and flying out of (or into) MAD? Trying to get an idea of how folks think it makes sense to sequence this.

A few things about us: We are not 'get-up-and-go' people or museum people; we want to make sure we build in sufficient time to rest; we value quality over quantity; we love quaint villages and breathtaking views; and, above all, we're looking for great — not necessarily fancy — food, wine, and beer.

I welcome any thoughts you may have. Thank you in advance!
