North of Barcelona to Carcassonne 6 day driving itinerary

We would Like to explore northeast Spain up to coast of France and Carcassone. We have 6 days 7 nights. Would also like to go to Montserrat. What towns recommended? We would like to stay in a place for a few nights each. We arrive the evening of October 27 at 5:30 PM and depart early on November 3 both in and out of Barcelona. What would you suggest as an itinerary for these areas With a minimum amount of driving. Have considered Girona- Narbonne- Montserrat - Barcelona as a possible itinerary. Is that much driving and can we cover the areas we want adequately with two nights in each and the last night in Barcelona before we catch early flight? Should we stay at an airport hotel or is The airport close to the city? We have an 8 am flight back to California.
. Thanks

Definitely stay in beautiful Collioure! It is a favorite place of ours, waterfront, art history, castle, charming.

Bpmann20,

you can devise your 6 days itinerary like this:

Oct. 27th – Barcelona

Oct. 28th – Barcelona (tour city)

Oct. 29th – Barcelona (Day trip to Montserrat)

Oct. 30 - Tarragona - Tour (Tarragona Amphitheatre, Mediterranean Balcony, Rambla Nova)

Oct. 31 - Tarragona - Tour (El Poblet Monastery, Tarragona Cathedral, Part Alta)

Nov 1 – Girona (Do the Wall Walk, Monestir de Sant Pere de Galligants, visit Esglesia de Sant Feliu)

Nov 2 - Girona / Barcelona (Take afternoon train back to Barcelona)

Nov 3 - Barcelona – fly out for home

If you don't want to do Girona then you can replace it with Zaragoza. Barcelona >>Tarragona >>Zaragoza >> then back to Barcelona. The distances are not too far.

Another option would be to continue north from Girona and visit Figueres and Cadaques (Dali), overnight in lovely Cadaques.

Thanks for your help. I forgot to mention that we would rent a car to do this trip. And we have already seen barcelona. I hav e come up with the following:
Oct 27 Barcelona ( we arrive at 530 pm from Morocco
Oct 28 day trip to Monserrat from Barcelona or pick up rental car and drive to Monserrat.
Spend night there
Oct 29 -30 girona, Figueres, Cadaqués, etc of Spain. Sleep 2 nights in Girona
Oct 31-November 1Collioure, Perpignan, Narbonne, Carcassonne. Sleep 2 Nights in Narbonne
Nov. 2 drive back to Barcelona in the afternoon
Nov. 3 catch early flight back to USA
Does that sound reasonable. We want to avoid long driving days. Is it to much to go into France? Should we just spend more time in Spain and poblet. And stay in tarragona instead of Narbonne?

Thank you again!

I suggest not driving to Monserrat. We did the train, then up the mountain, I think it was a cog train.

Do a day trip, take the train from the Plaza Espana and go early in the morning to miss the crowds.

Just focus on Spain , no need to drive over to France and crossing border with rental car of which will cost you quite a bit in fees. You can stay in Tarragona Spain if you like instead of spending a few days in Barcelona. Then, do Girona, Costa Brava area, Cadaques and Figueres. That should keep you busy for 6 days. Don't drive to Montserrat like the previous poster mentioned, public transport is the most convenient way to go there.
