No COVID certificate needed anymore!

So it seems non-EU visitors WILL NOT need to present a COVID certificate to visit us here in Catalonia, nor elsewhere in Spain. You will still however need a negative PCR to fly in. This is to be in effect within a few days, or so did the Spanish minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism said earlier today (May 19th)

In any case, DO CHECK before travelling as rules can change.

You're confusing me. It's not hard to do that but since when do Americans need a PCR test to fly into Spain? We have our covid card. Enric your doing the posting don't you think you should be right with your information?

I am assuming this just allows non-vaccinated folks to arrive with fewer hoops.

I'm looking forward to finding out what the mask rule will be on my flight next week--should be entertaining. I read yesterday that Spain requires masks on all public transport so expects masks to be worn on incoming flights. Will see if United enforces that.

@valadelphia - masks have been optional every place we’ve been so far. Maybe 5% of the people wear them. They were not required on the plane over (United) and not required in the airport.

Thanks James. I am not really fussed about it, just the lack of clear direction I find a little amusing. As long as no one acts ridiculous on the flights, it'll be okay. I'll probably wear mine, as I've not been sick for over two years nor had an international vacation--want one of those to remain the same and the other to change.

@TravelLady, the information is correct, hence the reason I include the source.

@valadelphia, can't help on US inbound flights, but for public transportation (buses, metro...) it's still compulsory -at least here in Barcelona- and almost everybody complies. Elsewhere, as I said, it's up to the businesses. Most don't require customers to use the mask, but some do. I would imagine this will decrease as we get into the Summer.

So, that's weird a story. I thought Spain just extended the requirements? Or is one Ministry not talking to another?

“The Minister of the Interior … extends all the restrictions that are currently applied to the Spanish external land, sea and air borders by virtue of the recommendations of the Council of the European Union due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19 until 12:00 p.m. on June 15, 2022,” the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a press statement on May 12. This replaces the previous order set to expire on May 15.

Yes there appears to be conflicting reports in the media at the moment, earlier this week restrictions were extended until mid June, hopefully things will clarify in the next few days :)

HI everyone: i'm confused. I'm flying into Barcelona on June 18. Myself and my family are all vaccinated so I don't need the PCR test right?

As of now that is correct, just need proof of vaccination and a QR code from the spth app (https://www.spth.gob.es/) completed 48 hours before your arrival in Spain.

What's being discussed upthread is for unvaccinated non-EU visitors

Carlos thank you for clarifying! My family and I arrive next week and were not planning to PCR test before arriving since we are up to date on vaccines.

Yes, yes, I thought it was implied that I was referring to "non-vaccinated non-EU visitors". If you're vaccinated then you present your COVID certificate instead as you've been doing until now.

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed yesterday the new order amending the old order on travel, which was set to remain effective until June 15, after being extended to this date only a week ago.

According to the new order, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), all travelers from countries outside the European Union can now enter Spain for non-essential purposes, given that they present one of the following documents:

  • Certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 that proves the traveler has taken the second or third/booster dose in the last nine months.

  • Certificate of recovery from the virus issued in the last 180 days. The certificate must have been issued at least 11 days after the confirmation of the infection with COVID-19 by a PCR or antigen test performed by professionals.

  • Negative PCR test results carried out in the 72 hours prior to departure to Spain, or negative antigen test results carried out in the 24 hours prior to departure to Spain.

*Children under 12 years of age will be exempt from presenting any type of certificate.
