Night train from Granada to Barcelona suspended?

Hi fellow travelers,

I just saw on Rail.cc that the night train service from Granada to Barcelona has been suspended. This would explain why I can find trains from GRX to BCN anywhere. Does anyone know what's going on? Is flying the best way to go then?

Thanks!

There are at least a couple of daytime trains (7.5 hours) between Granada and Barcelona with only one connection at Antequera-Santa Ana, due to construction on that line. More run with more changes. For the same reason, the night train has not been running for maybe six months. Whether or not it will be reinstated after construction is anybody's guess. Flying can be both faster and cheaper; see www.skyscanner.com.

Thanks Laura. I agree that flying would be the most efficient way to go, and it would not cost much more by rail.

It will be a big surprise if the night train ever runs again.

I agree. Once there's high-speed rail service into Granada, there'd be no need of an overnight option.

High speed rail would be my preferred choice, but now I'm looking forward to checking out Vueling for the first time!

I purchased tickets through Vueling a couple months ago (BCN to GRX) and it was very inexpensive ($60 pp) and that includes the extra fees to check baggage (just in case). I think it's expensive to check baggage for Vueling at the airport.

@hellospain you're breaking my heart. i know Vueling tickets are usually very affordable, but unfortunately my partner and I have to travel on May 1, which is a major holiday, and there were only four tickets left on the flight we wanted. I tried to find a way around it, but sad to say our tickets were nowhere near what you paid. My poor travel budget...
