I will be flying through Madrid Airport to get to destinations further on. I will spend a few days enjoying the central area of the city going one direction, but going the other direction I want just one night in a hotel that is a short uber ride from the airport. Might anyone know of a charming neighborhood to stay in near the airport? Thanks.
Casco Histórico de Barajas does not look too bad actually.
If you can stand an hour of transport (or spring for a cab), Alcala de Henares is lovely.
There are others with far more experience staying in Madrid than me, but I recently had two overnight stays. For one, I stayed near Chamartin to save money (and it worked with my schedule). Nothing bad about it but I would not say “charming”. For a different night, I just stayed at the Hilton, which has a great shuttle service to and from. Also not charming, but nice hotel. Staying in the center of town and taking a €33 euro taxi that takes about 30 minutes is a good and easy option.
I don't think the airport hotels are in charming neighborhoods - at least I have not found any.
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza last year - airport shuttle both to and from the airport. Reasonably priced, ran to schedule. Book in advance - I would be inclined to trust that service more than an Uber/taxi. Regular route.
Hi William,
I stayed in the Maydrit Hotel Airport this spring for one night after going on Rick’s Andelucia tour.
It’s a nice hotel with a very good restaurant and in a neighborhood with a grocery store nearby. Also, they provide a free shuttle to/from the airport.
Have a great trip,
Cheryl
The ride to the airport been from central Madrid is so quick I don't think its pays to stay near the airport.....unless you are only there to sleep......
Taxi costs about 30 euro; it's a flat rate, and takes only about a half an hour, barring heavy traffic.
Hello again William. Just booked Maydrit Hotel Airport for next April. €137 per night for two people including tax and free shuttle

As a side comment, prices in Spain are always final and all taxes are always included, by law.
