Hi:
Reworking the plan and may stay one night in Madrid upon arrival from US, before morning train to Cordoba.
Anyone have a favorite hotel near the train station good for one night?
Thanks!

Hotel Agumar A short walk from Atocha...has good restaurant as well. I stayed there and had a good stay. If you have luggage, you will likely take a taxi, but could walk..it is "downhill" to the Atocha Station.
Hi Kim, my wife and I just did the reverse - we took the train from Cordoba to Madrid the night before our return flight home around noon on October 31.
We found the Hotel Mediodia to be very reasonable for our purposes at 77 Euro for a double. The hallway on the 6th floor seemed a bit dreary but the room itself was very well-lighted, clean and spacious. The front desk staff were nice and helpful. We paid 7+ Euro each for a decent buffet breakfast at the hotel. We'd stay there again if we wanted to be near the train station.
There is a taxi rank right in front of the hotel but I'm not sure how much distance you'd actually save by taking one to the station.
If you have rolling luggage it's a manageable walk (probably 400 - 600 yards depending on your platform) between the hotel entrance and the station - I'd suggest asking the front desk for exact directions to the ramps rather than the stairs at Atocha.
4 star Hotel Paseo del Arte is 10 mins walk from the station and offers great value.
