New José Andrés Spain Travel Show

Just wanted to give a heads up about a new travel/food show on the horizon to potentially watch out for. It's called José Andrés and Family in Spain and follows famous Spanish-American chef, José Andrés, and his American-born daughters as they travel back to Spain to explore 6 different cities/regions, with a particular focus on Spain's innovative restaurant scene and gastronomy traditions. The show appears to be streaming starting December 27 on Discovery+

Here's the places they will visit, including some of the restaurants:

Barcelona - Disfrutar, Bar Pinotxo, Tapas 24

Andalucía - Venta El Toro, Restaurante Antonio

Madrid - El Riojano, Chocolat, Monastery of Corpus Christi las Carboneras

Valencia - Casa Carmela, Ca Cent Duros

Asturias - Casa Marcial, Cider Street, Oviedo, Camilo de Blas

Lanzarote (Canarias) - El Risco, Tacande

The formula seems a bit like Stanly Tucci's Searching for Italy, which I guess is a good thing lol.

There's a similar themed food series for 2023 with Eva Longoria going through Mexico. It's for CNN

It's being produced by the same people who did Stanley Tucci's series. However CNN has canceled all third party original series so we'll see what happens

Yes, I saw the new management of CNN made big cuts to their original programing slate, even though much of it was award winning, I guess they were not profitable. Just highlights the importance of public radio and tv that are not beholden to shareholders.

Just as long as they are solely funded by private donations without a single taxpayer penny.

I’ll look out for it. We stopped at El Riojano for hot Chocolate and cake.

No, I think the European funding model is much more efficient, just look at RTVE for example, excellent programing without the need to beg for public charity every year to ensure their continued existence. But I think this is starting to go way beyond the scope of my original post.

Thank you, this looks like my kind of show. I've added it to my D+ list.

There was a series on PBS in 2008 called "Spain on the Road Again" starring Mario Batali, Mark Bittman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Spanish actress Claudia Bassols. It was the same concept where they traveled around Spain eating and drinking.

You can find most of the episodes on Youtube.

"Barcelona - Disfrutar, Bar Pinotxo, Tapas 24" Yadda-yadda, yadda-yadda, same-old, same-old.
Yep — don't follow your senses — follow the herd — it's easier that way. We coin a few bucks and you don't have to think.

Jose Andres has several restaurants in Washington DC, among other cities. He is also known for charitable work--often feeding people in areas that have suffered a natural disaster, etc.

He gained his fame here in the U.S. He is the founder of the nonprofit World Central Kitchen. If you get a chance to see the documentary “We Feed People”, it is really excellent.
