Hola,
We desire a short stay in a lovely beachside Spanish hamlet. Rick guarantees that Nerja is the perfect place for this. We were ready to book a place, but stumbled upon some reviews that mentioned sewage issues in town which caused serious gastro-intestinal issues. Some mentioned that their symptoms were so bad they had to undergo a hospital stay due to infection and serious condition. A local paper mentioned that a water waste plant was built in 2019, but we have not found any information confirming that the hazardous concerns to tourists have in fact decreased. We have travelled to many seaside towns around the world, and we understand that this is always a concern, but would like confirmation that we can travel to Nerja without this concern. Thanks for any help you can offer! Muchas gracias,
My guess is those reviews are from 2019 or so when there were problems with some sewage being dumped into the water. That has been rectified. According to a November 2021 article, even any bad smells have been taken care of. If you’re still unsure, just stay at a different beach town.
