Looking for the best neighborhoods to stay in both Seville and Madrid. This will be our first time visiting and we are spending 4 nights in each place. We want the location to be very convenient and walking distance to most main sites. Ideally would love a place with a pool, but not a hard requirement. Also not looking for top end places, more so mid-range. Will pay up a little more if it's a particular hotel / apartment that is fantastic and will up our experience. The aim of our trip by the way is to see a few of the main sites, but not overwhelm ourselves with doing every thing. We mostly want to enjoy the culture and experience great food/wine and live music. We enjoy walking around new areas and stumbling into places that look interesting to us. Open to suggestions on neightborhoods as well as specific hotel recommendations if you have a place you particularly liked staying. Thanks!
If the main sites for Madrid are mostly the art galleries, then stay in that area. That, and easy access to Atocha train station, made this a no brainer for me. I am on a budget so got a no frills apartment on C. Del Gobernador. So obviously no pool, but there are hotels in the area.
There is a subway and multiple buses nearby to get to the central plaza, but calculating the timing, it was easier to just walk...about 18 minutes.
To refresh the brain, Retiro Park is nearby for walks, and the nearby Botanical Garden is nice. The used to run a used book market between the 2 on the south side.
For Seville, I had a rooftop terrace apartment a few (short) blocks from the Cathedral, the Alcazar, bull ring and river. It's old town so narrow streets. There is a day time compact bus that picks up in the area to get you to the main Cathedral and the Casa de los Duenas. Not sure if many hotels in that area. Very walkable, including to cross the river to see a less tourists area
