Neighborhoods in Madrid - 3 day visit

Hello All -

I'm considering either the Malasana or Barrio de la Latina neighborhoods for our upcoming May visit. Three days/nights in the city.
From what I've read, these neighborhoods seem a bit off of the tourist track yet accessible to the major sites. The hotels we are considering are within a 5 minute walk to the Metro.

Any advice/thoughts would be well appreciated.

Thanks - Don

The Malansaña area is off the beaten tourist track. A nice, small market there is Mercado San Antón. It’s not nearly as busy Mercado San Miguel by the Plaza Mayor.

The Barrio de la Latina is closer to the main tourist area except for that area closer to the Puente and Puerta de Toledo.

Both are within a 20 minutes walk to the Plaza Mayor and Puerta Del Sol area.

Both good choices. I would say Malasana is a bit younger, more "alternative" artsy, maybe a bit scruffier and rougher around the edges.
