Can anyone tell me if the neighborhood around Place de St Jaume in Barcelona seems safe? I e found an apartment to rent for an upcoming trip with a grandchild and just want to be sure. Thanks!
Yes it is
Actually, the whole of the city is 'safe' (safish), this is not to say you can't find petty crime here and there say pickpocket and the odd mugging; but again, sadly the existence of some sort of crime is rather common in many big cities.
If you're curious... this normally provides a fair comparison among large cities, especially if the number of contributors for each city is reasonable: https://www.numbeo.com/crime/comparison.jsp
Can you please post exactly where (street)? I can then give you a better view.
I assume you are referring to Plaça de Sant Jaume? It that case, the plaça and its immediate surroundings are very safe, as it is where our Town Hall and Regional Government (Generalitat) are located! :)
Thank you!
I believe the Cathedral is also close. Will the bells keep us awake?
One thing to keep in mind is that in Barcelona, as well as in the rest of the county, meal times are extremely late. The streets will be full of people returning home after dinner at midnight and even later.
I don’t know the street yet. But it’s close to St Jaume and also to the Temple Roma d’ August.
No Ann, you're the ones eating extremely early! hahaha!
What about the neighborhood on Carrier Pete Mets Alt...I apologize for spelling errors. Near the Palace of Catalan Music.
wow, you better double-check your spelling or else you won't find anything when looking online!.... the correct spelling is CARRER DE SANT PERE MÉS ALT, sorry, you didn't get not even one correct, LOL!
That area is also ok(ish), albeit not as ok as the area in Plaça Sant Jaume.
Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt? That's in the Sant Pere neighborhood which is fine, Barcelona in general is safer than most cities in the U.S. The only area I would be a bit wary of are parts of El Raval, just south of La Rambla.
Thanks everyone! Looking forward to the trip.
@blackhawkfan1946, now that I'm thinking about it, I agree with Enric that Plaça Sant Jaume would be a better option than Sant Pere.
Let us know if you have any other questions :)
