Need some help with Spain Itinerary

At the end of our River Cruise which includes a stay in Madrid we have 8 full days to explore Spain on our own. We will be flying out of Barcelona at the end of our trip. We are pretty sure we want to go to Sevelle and had originally planned on working our way to Malaga and Valencia before ending up in Barcelona. Someone suggested we should consider Palma de Mallorca (Majorca) Obiously can not do it all. We could fly from Seville to Majorca then return to Barcelona skipping Malaga and Valencia. In reading thorugh many postings I really have not seen comments on Majorca. Would appreciate input on Majorca vs our original plan. We had anticipated using train transportation. Our trip is the first part of July.

Thanks

I can comment on Valencia and think it's a great city. Not as popular a tourist destination and it lacks the sites with a "punch." But it's a great laid back city with great architecture and food.

You don't mention Granada. Is that on your tour? If in Sevilla and making your way towards Barcelona, I would definitely recommend a couple of days there and a visit to La Alhmabra.

The trick is getting from Sevilla or Granada to Valencia. There is no real good train link and it's a long bus ride. So a short flight would be best. But once in Valencia, it's an easy train ride up the coast to Barcelona. You might also consider Tarragona as a stop, just south of Barcelona. It's the original Roman settlement in Iberia and has some dramatic ruins and a great museum. Worth an overnight stay.

Your other listed options I think more of as beach destinations. If that's your think, than maybe worth it for you.

Without knowing if your tour includes other parts of Spain, I would suggest you visit Cordoba (Mezquita) and Granada (Alhambra) after extended time in Sevilla (Cathedral & Alcazar). Fly from Granada to Barcelona - check fares with Vueling. Mallorca would be nice if you are looking for some sun and relaxation, but of course involves flights and possibly a car for exploring. You don't say what time of year.

Based on your comments and other research we have decided not to visit Majorica this time around.

Good call. By the way, I loved Cordoba and Toledo best of all (not counting Barcelona, which is simply different). The very best tapas are in Seville.
