Need recomendation on a 6-day itinerary trip to Malaga, Cordoba and Granada

We just found great ticket prices to Malaga at the end of March. I wish we could stay longer but the most we can take off from work is a week. We wil be arriving to Malaga from the US at 7:30pm on Wednesday March 21st and departing from Malaga as well on Tuesday March 27th at 9am.

We are in our early 40's so we are very active and would like to enjoy the culture, food, churches, nature, etc. We are not much into museums. If we go, we check them very quick.

Does this intinerary make sense? We only would like to visit Malaga, Cordoba and Granada as we already visit Seville last year

Wedenesdat March 21st: Late arrival to Malaga, stay overnight in Malaga
Thursday March 22nd: depart early AM to Cordoba
Friday March 23rd: All day Cordoba and travel to Granada in the late afternoon
Saturday March 24th: All day Granada (most likely the Alhambra)
Sunday March 25th (Palm Sunday): half day Granada, then go back to Malaga
Monday March 26th: All Day Malaga
Tuesday March 27th: Return to the US

Does the order make sense transportation-wise? We will be using train and buses (not renting a car)

Any changes / suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,

Greetings, we just spent 3 weeks in Spain flying out of Málaga after visiting Cordoba & Granada. You can get a train (less than 10 min ride) from Málaga airport to main bus and train station, stay overnight at Barceló Málaga right next to bus & train station. The Barceló is pricey and doesn't have much charm or character but great travel location. You can easily walk from there to most Málaga sites and take ground transportation (train or bus) to Grandad and Cordoba. We took train from Granada to Málaga. Cordoba was a day trip for us from Seville so can't give you advice about Málaga-Granada-Cordoba connections specifically.
Cordoba is worth an entire day, we arrived 10:30am and left on the 8pm train. It might work to leave Cordoba late afternoon right after comida. Plan your travel around typical Spanish meal times and when sites are open/closed during the day. Travel during the "dead" times if you can. La Mezquita in Cordoba and walking around the old city to find a lovely place to eat will fill your time. The Alhambra will fill your day in Granada and walking around the Albayzin (try to stay in that neighborhood) to several of “miradors” to look back at the Alhambra and the rest of the city. Great eatery choices in the higher hilly parts of Albayzin. Have fun.

We just returned from those areas in Spain and had a great time. I can recommend the Barcelo Hotel which is attached to the train station in Malaga. It was great for a one night stay; modern clean and extremely reasonably priced at 95 euros per night. One day in Cordoba will give you enough time to visit the Mezquita which is beautiful. Granada was a highlight of our three week trip! The Alhambra is not to be missed and make sure you reserve a timed ticket to the Nasrid Palaces well in advance. We stayed at a wonderful B&B in the Albaicin area of Granada. Excellent customer service and a knowledge of Granada that you will not find in a conventional hotel. https://www.casadelaljarife.com/en/ The tapas bars in Granada are the best! Enjoy the trip.

Reading all recommendations, it seems than the best route is Malaga-Granada-Cordoba-Malaga.

I see a night in Ronda is recommended as well, over an extra night in Malaga. Is Ronda Better than Malaga? I was planning to spend the last 2 nights in Malaga to at least get a full day in the City and a quick taste? is ti worthy? Is it too cold at the end of March to go to the beach? Thanks

This time I'm going to disagree with my friend David's itinerary. I like your original one best. Here's why.

You get to spend time in Cordoba, my favorite Spanish city. You will have time to see the two top sights in Spain, the Mezquita there and then the Alhambra in Granada. Best of all, you'll have a day and a half in Malaga at the beginning of Semana Santa and you'll be witness to the colorful pageantry of the biggest holiday celebrations in the country. Andalucia celebrates Semana Santa more than anywhere else and Malaga is just about the best place in Andalucia to see it. The only adjustment I might make to your plan is to leave Granada earlier on Sunday. In between watching the processions and seeing the incredibly beautiful "thrones", you'll have time to visit the Roman ruins, see a couple of the smaller, but very good, museums, and enjoy this very pretty city. The processions go well into the night, so plan to stay up and sleep on the flight home.

Read this article to understand how to use the trains and the Renfe website. It's cheapest to buy train tickets as soon as they go on sale, usually 2 months in advance, but the site is erratic, so sometimes tickets are offered much earlier, while some trains - even on the same day - may only be offered a week or two ahead.

Book your last nights in Malaga as early as you can. This is high, high season. I stayed at the Ibis, and rates were very reasonable and the location is very good. I've stayed in a good many Ibis hotels, this one was subpar, but for a couple of nights it was acceptable - mostly because of the price and the location.
