need help understanding Renfe site

As I look to buy train tickets, I see Promo and Promo +, as well as the round trip and the flexible fares. I want to be able to select my seat. When I look at Promo which does not allow it, there is a line that says Promo + for 3,85 Euros more lets you select your seat. But then when select Promo + it still shows that you cannot select your seat. I'm confused. Please help me understand this

I have been trying to figure out what is best - go from Sevilla to Cordoba in morning (arrive Cordoba 8:45) and then catch etiher 12.56 or 15.00 train from Cordoba to Madrid, or go straight to Madrid from Sevilla, and do a daytrip to Cordoba out of Madrid. The advantage to the latter is that we don't have to use a locker to store our luggage. The disadvantage (that I can tell) is we waste almost 4 hrs more in travel (Madrid to Cordoba a little less than 2 hrs) plus the day we'd go to Madrid, we would be sacrificing "Madrid time" for a morning in Sevilla. Regardless, I still need to understand what Renfe means when it says Promo + lets you choose seat, but then when selecting Promo + it still says cannot choose seat.

You could consider using an alternative website that might be slightly more understandable. loco2 or trainline.eu? I must admit, my eyes glaze over when I try to understand all the options. Have you tried to select Promo+ from the beginning rather than as an add on from Promo choice?

Is there a reason you can't do a Cordoba day trip from Seville? It would be much faster than a day trip from Madrid? If not, then I would elect to do the Cordoba enroute method. There is easy locker storage at the company across from the train station, or at the bus station also across from the train station.

It looks like all you can do on promo+ is choose window or aisle. This is different from what it was last year when I was there. Seems like Renfe's changed its terms. Maybe you can get more info on tripadvisor.com
