Need advice on stay in Barcelona

We are family of 4 traveling to Barcelona for 4 nights in August. Was wondering where (area/street/hotel/airbnb) to stay.
Our criteria and preferences:

Since we are 4, would prefer airbnb with kitchen amenities or hotel with breakfast and kitchenette that allows 4 to stay - which is better airbnb or hotel? budget around $250-300 per day?
Area walking distance to Metro, cafes, restaurants, shops and main attractions (short cab ride ok) (La Sagrada Familia etc),
safe
Would love to stay near the beaches (view/walk) - is it recommended to stay near any of the beaches? how are Barcelona beaches? are they good to swim, spend half a day etc?

The Eixample neighborhood is a great area to stay. The architecture is beautiful and it is safe and convenient to many sites. We walked to the Boqueria market, to the beach, to Casa Batllo and Casa Mila. We might have walked to La Sagrada Familia. We stayed at Hotel Granvia.

Thank you, but I think most hotels dont allow 4 people in a room?

I agree that the Eixample neighborhood is a great place to stay. It's right in the middle of everything.

We have stayed twice now at Suites Center serviced apartments in Gracia (6 nights each visit). It's a couple of minutes from Diagonal metro station and in a VERY family friendly area. It's associated with the Hotel Casa Fusta (but a couple of doors down the street) so you can use their rooftop pool, room service and luggage storage facilities.

There's supermarkets very close and lots of small restaurants nearby on leafy plazas where kids run around or play soccer while mum/dad drink and have tapas and abuelas eat gelato. On Saturdays they close the main street to make it a pedestrian zone and there are so many people pushing prams.

It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to Plaza Catalunya past a couple of the main Gaudi buildings and is a metro ride to the beach. We caught the metro most places or walked.
