I will be in Madrid on October 12, 2015 - this is a national holiday - will most museums be open, what about shops etc

What's the holiday? I will also be traveling in Spain on October 12, flying from Barcelona to Seville and renting a car in Seville. How will this holiday impact our travel plans and any suggestion?

Columbus Day, Celebration of the Hispanic world. I dont think it would affect travellers too much. Sights open for example, but shops closed.
