My tour runs Oct. 13-21 (Barcelona to Madrid), and to be safe I'll arrive in Spain a day or two early. That means I'll be there on Spain's National Day, Oct. 12. What should I expect in terms of transit and attractions being open or closed, on different schedules, etc.? Will there be extra-large crowds?
I was originally thinking of arriving Oct. 10 or 11 and spending Oct. 12 visiting the Monserrat Monastery. But I'm reconsidering since I realized that is a holiday.
(If you'll be or have visited elsewhere in Spain on the National Day, feel free to contribute.)
I do not think that any attractions close on Oct 12. It´s a Saturday this year, so just a regular weekend. Madrid will hold a military parade in the city center, but nothing much in Barcelona.
As I have explained in the past, Catalonia's National Day is Sep 11th, therefore, on Oct 12th almost all tourist attractions are opened as it develops as a regular Saturday, as Mikel points out.
